## Bio

Tri (Alex) Nguyen is a Ph.D. candidate in the Applied Mathematics program at the University of California, Merced under the academic advisement of Professor Mayya Tokman. He has a B.S. in Economics and Mathematics from the University of California, San Diego and an M.S. in Mathematics from the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona).

As an applied mathematician the scope of his work encompasses mathematical modeling, numerical analysis, and scientific computing. His current work focuses on developing advanced mathematical algorithms for improved computational performance of particle simulation models of plasma physics.

Prior to embarking on his academic trajectory he was a U.S. Marine, participated in an excessively long experiment in maintaining an orthodox existence in the corporate world (mostly employed in technical staff positions in the wireless/RF industry), and enjoyed a brief stint as a cartoonist.
